While the wow-factor of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign's campus is a widely debated topic, I personally find a lot of beauty in it. And after thinking about how many of the buildings remind me of different kinds of foods, I'm convinced our campus can't be beat.
Here is what every main building would be if it were to magically turn into food.
Undergraduate Library (UGL): Cronut
A cronut is the obvious equivalent to the UGL not only because of their similar doughnut shape, but because of the layers in a cronut and floors of the UGL. But like the sad fate of the cronut, there are better library options and desserts to choose from once the hype dies down.
Foellinger Auditorium: Big Mac
Just like McDonald's is known for the Big Mac, the Quad is known for Foellinger Auditorium. Both are iconic in their own ways and are sure to stand the test of time. Unfortunately, you can't make your own Foellinger at home like you can make your own Big Mac.
Gregory Hall: Popcorn
This one's pretty self-explanatory. Gregory Hall is the home of the College of Media, and what food could better represent all things media than popcorn? These popcorn recipes would make a great fit for representing Gregory Hall.
Lincoln Hall: Trail Mix
Lincoln Hall is a catch-all type of building. Classes from kinesiology and journalism to statistics and world religions are held in this building. Just like trail mix, you can get a little bit of everything in Lincoln Hall.
Illini Union: Chocolate avocado truffles
You wouldn't expect a hotel, bowling alley, conference rooms and a food court to all be in one building just like you wouldn't expect chocolate and avocado to go together. But somehow this combo, and these other ones too, couldn't be better matches.
Krannert Center for the Performing Arts: Wine and Cheese
This place is classy as hell. Since Krannert is a mecca for the fine arts, who could expect this building to be compared to anything other than wine and cheese? It just makes sense.
Noyes Laboratory: Subway bread when it had that "yoga mat" ingredient
Just like the yoga mat ingredient scandal that Subway faced a few years ago, who knows what kids of chemicals are in Noyes? Another thing that makes them so similar is that they're both hot AF.
Now if only we could get each of these buildings (minus Noyes Laboratory) to serve the foods that they remind us of.
